What to Expect
Selby Folk Club is run by a bunch of dedicated volunteers who put on a club night on the first Friday of every month (except January).,
The club has established a reputation for providing a supportive atmosphere. so many of our featured artists have commented on the quiet attentive crowd. They love it that people come out and really listen.
And the locals love it too. There aren’t many opportunities to come and hear live acoustic music without the usual chatter and clatter.
Supper is provided for a gold coin donation and includes mulled wine, tea, coffee and cakes.
Our History
Selby Community House is one of the oldest community houses in Victoria, providing a space for locals to learn new skills and access support services such as child care. It has proudly hosted the Selby Folk Club since 1978, creating a vibrant scene for Hills musicians to come together, collaborate, share songs and tunes and make music.
It was a warm hearted Frenchman, Jean Francios Rogian, who provided the momentum to get the Selby Folk Club off the ground. Then, as now, it was a very organic, grassroots affair that provided an intimate place where people felt encouraged to perform and try out new things.
Another close and enduring association is with 3MDR, Mountain District Radio. Established in the aftermath of the Ash Wednesday bushfires, 3MDR brought the Hills community together through music. From the very beginning, there were dedicated folk music shows including Folk Works and The Dotted Line.
But the first was the late Robert Franthy. Listen to him promoting the Selby Folk Club and introducing Francois.
