SUMMARY:Louie and the Pride
DESCRIPTION:Louise MacGregor\, folky singer/songwriter\, had a successful solo career before teaming up with her great friend Ben O’Connell\, known broadly as The Fuzz. Ben’s flare for the dark blues added unmistakable flavour\, giving an edge and substance to Louie’s lighter pop/folk style. \nMeanwhile Louise’s sister in-law and Nova Marsh Rob Grosden\, both playing inAmberdance\, had been soothing souls with their unmistakable harmonies when the two pairs started jamming in 2010. The four very well blended voices brought the songs to life and the weekly jam sessions became weekend-long “band camps” on Louise’s Healesville veranda\, \nThe songs were immediately loaded to Triple J Unearthed\, where they sat high in the pop chart for weeks\, “Wake Me Up” reaching number two! 2015 the trend continues upward with the much awaited release of the crowd funded album “Wake Me Up” and the start of the “Louie and the Pride by Lamplight tour” \n

SUMMARY:Kimberley Wheeler Duo
DESCRIPTION:Originally from Geelong\, Victoria\, Kim started off in bands with electric bass and heavy metal. She has now moved on to a folky acoustic vibe. Widely respected as an amazing singer and grooving upright bass player; Kim has been a member of acoustic bands Little Rabbit\, Uncle Bill\, Appalachian Heaven as well as supporting the internationally renowned Dan Hicks as one of the Innocent Bystanders. \nHer award winning original songs are lyrical and quirky. In 2015 Kimberley was awarded the Tilley’s Choice Award for ‘Watching Over Joan’.  Her songs cover life commentary and social issues\, pure fun and some politics. In all of her music the melodies are compelling.  Her voice is in the alto range\, rich and mellow\, and is often compared to dark chocolate with its rich texture. \nJohn Gray joins Kimberley as the other half of the duo. He played on the SA bluegrass and folk scene when he was in his 20’s and 30’s but then stopped playing music for some time before coming out of early retirement to join Uncle Bill in recent years. He played in a band called Mississippi that was the precursor to the Little River Band and has recently played on the ‘Red Dog’ movie soundtrack. \n  \n \n  \nIntroducing the support act… \n  \nCathy Dobson\n \n  \nCathy is a multi-award winning singer/song writer performing mainly in Melbourne. DESCRIPTION:David Hosking is a rare jewel in the crown of songwriting. With a voice that is endearing\, honest\, tender but full of life. David’s voice is reminiscent of Nick Cave meeting Nick Drake being smashed in the middle by early Tom Waits. \nDavid from Melbourne\, Australia has been writing\, recording and touring for over 20 years with multiple successful tours opening for Eddie Reader\, Foy Vance\, The Waifs\, Ron Sexsmith\, Boo Hewerdine\, Chris Wilson\, Shane O’Mara\, Rebecca Barnard\, Shelly Scown\, comedian Glynn Nicholas & Crowded House engineer Paul Kosky throughout Australia\, UK and Europe. \nTo date David has released seven albums\, and built a large and loyal following in Australia\, Europe and Ireland. DESCRIPTION:An Australian five-piece\, Stray Hens\, largely re-imagines old folk ballads. He moved to Australia in 2004\, and formed The Stillsons in 2006. Tim Woodz has supported ex TISM Damien Cowell’s Disco Machine at the Corner Hotel and played multiple supports for Tex Perkins and the Dark Horses. A reporter after a gig at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory wrote: \n“Tim Woodz is the kind of person your Mum or Dad would describe most fittingly as a ‘duffer’… but Woodz’ charm played a big part in the audience warming up to him. He was all grins and silly anecdotes\, putting the crowd at ease and holding court over a few tall tales.” \nTim is famously known for his Possum song\, Tall Trees and Laundromat songs and on his on stage witty character. Tim’s Jazz trained guitar style with a blend of folk stories and quirky tales will please the poetic lovers in all the young at heart. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Devil Goat Family String Band are a five piece band who play high-energy bluegrass and fiddle tunes like they’ve never gone out of style. Their contemporary arrangements of traditional tunes utilize the twin fiddles of Kate Conner and Sophia Dunn\, banjo of Gus Macmillan\, Guitar of Luke Byrnes and Double Bass of Fran Evans. They traverse the old timey and new-grass traditions\, and generate a live energy that is truly infectious to music-lovers of all generations. \nFirst formed in 2005\, this most recent new line up builds on the success and recognition they developed in the noughties\, when they released their highly acclaimed CD Fate of a Bachelor. In 2018 they released their second CD Peace Love and Goats produced by Greg Walker whose credits include Paul Kelly and C.W.Stoneking. DESCRIPTION:September celebrates song at Selby Folk Club. Why? Because it’s good for everyone! Singing makes you feel better and it turns out the reasons are physical. Here’s some science… \nSinging has some of the same effects as exercise\, like the release of endorphins\, which give the singer an overall “lifted” feeling and are associated with stress reduction. It’s also an aerobic activity\, meaning it gets more oxygen into the blood for better circulation\, which tends to promote a good mood. \nIn addition\, scientists have identified a tiny organ in the ear called the sacculus\, which responds to the frequencies created by singing. The response creates an immediate sense of pleasure\, regardless of what the singing sounds like.  So it’s just as good for the audience as it is for the performers! \nHeadlining this year’s Big Sing… \n  \nPlatinum Quartet\n \nThe effervescent Platinum Quartet have entertained crowds at public and private functions all over town.
