SUMMARY:The MAE Trio
DESCRIPTION:This Melbourne-based band is fast making a name for themselves in the Australian music scene. Maggie and Elsie Rigby started performing and touring with their family band\, The Rainmakers\,in their early teens and won the Lis Johnston Award for Vocal Excellence at the National Folk Festival 2011. Anita Hillman has played since 2009 with successful folk band Evelyn’s Secret as well as performing with the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle club and the Geoff McArthur quartet.\nThey started playing music together late 2011. All three members of the trio write their own songs and these are tastefully arranged to suit the group’s diverse instrumental talents and love of three part vocal harmony. \nThe Mae Trio were the recipients of the 2013 Folk Alliance Youth Award at the National Folk Festival and since then they have performed at many festivals in Australia\, Scotland\, France and the Us. \n“Listened to a couple of songs and just kept on listening ‘cos I was enjoying it so much. Really great harmonies\, beautiful production.”\n– Missy Higgins \n“The Mae Trio take you on a real old world journey where harmony and story are king. They also happen to be talented songwriters whose contemporary and original melodies and songs sound like classics. Their show is threaded with amusing banter that invites you in and leaves you wanting more.”\n– Kavisha Mazzella

DESCRIPTION:In her teen years\, she played bass guitar in a jazz band and sang for pleasure with friends doing mainly harmony-based vocal stuff. She also went on to perform in cover bands while forming the Elizabeth Scott Band. \nRiley Jordan has absorbed many styles of music\, through her work with diverse groups of musicians over many years in the Melbourne music scene. Her style is a mixture of roots music including blues\, soul\, and folk. Her music has been described as having elements of Grace Jones\, Tina Turner\, Des’ree\, and Marianne Faithful. SUMMARY:The Boltons
DESCRIPTION:The Boltons go wayfaring through intriguing and less-travelled musical landscapes\, out where the fences are few and far between. These intrepid explorers bring a wealth of influences from many years of folk\, classical\, jazz\, acoustic and rock performances. Atmospheric violin and accordion in conversation with acoustic guitar and double-bass trace sparkling lines around memorable melodies\, nuanced vocals and evocative lyrics. \nTom Bolton (acoustic guitar and vocals) will be joined on stage with Peter Anderson (accordion)\, Reave Maloney (double-bass) and Emma Rodda (violin). \n“Bolton’s knack for winsome-pretty\, winning melodies is a cut above 1000 other guys and gals with an acoustic guitar that want to sing to us about love and its discontents. Instead of wasting our time\, he fills it with small\, steady wonders”\n– Jack Rabid\, The Big Takeover\, New York \n

DESCRIPTION:Stewart Kohinga is a singer\, musician\, and songwriter from Melbourne\, Australia. His warm\, soulful voice is considered by many in the local music industry to be a thing of beauty. SUMMARY:Jenny Biddle
DESCRIPTION:Whether listening to her albums or witnessing this diminutive songstress live on stage\, you are humbled by a raw honesty. The intense and somewhat complex style of Jenny’s music touches upon many issues that affect us all… love\, loss\, fears\, hopes – all the challenges life throws at us. And she’s willing to share and let us in. In fact\, she’s so damn honest she even talks about her lies! She describes herself as “Missy Higgins meets The Waifs\, with some mesmerising guitar voyages and facial expressions thrown in.” In truth\, her songs are just so deeply personal\, inspiring an incredibly moving listening experience. \n  \n“She wraps herself around a self-made acoustic guitar\, like a marriage between body and instrument\, her most honest core is released as she commands the guitar to talk “with uncommon skill and absolute self-assurance”\n~ Syke\, 2013 \n

SUMMARY:Jed Rowe CD Launch
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist Jed Rowe has performed across Australia and Europe\, but he still calls The Dandenong Ranges home. \nRowe returns to Selby Folk Club to launch his third album The Last Day Of Winter. Enlisting ARIA award winner Jeff Lang for the second time as producer\, Rowe also brought in Cat Canteri and Justin Bernasconi of The Stillsons. The result is a diverse collection of songs which focus on Rowe’s deft touch with story and melody\, with an emotional depth that resonates after the final note falls away. Rowe’s guitar talents are pushed to new heights by both Lang’s and Bernasconi’s supporting guitar roles\, and three part vocal harmonies reign throughout. \nThe son of two musicians\, Jed Rowe grew up in rural NSW and relocated to Melbourne in 2003. He showed early promise as an author\, winning a national undergraduate short story writing award. Now a festival regular\, Rowe has performed at Tamworth Country Music Festival\, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Thredbo Blues Festival amongst many others. \nJed will perform with Cat Canteri on harmony vocals and percussion\, with support from eclectic Yarra Ranges trio The Anecdote. \nRowe stands out in the pack… Jeff Lang returns as producer with Cat Canteri and Justin Bernasconi (The Stillsons)… The communion is a perfect fit for Rowe’s songs.\n~ Rhythms Magazine 2015.

Deb’s sister-in-law\, Margot Thorne was cajoled into just having a go and she did\, and the quartet was complete. \n  \nSupported by local favourites Sweet Sassafras and VoKallista\n \n \n\n
