DESCRIPTION:Belgrave-born folk-pop darlings Parkville got their start busking on the city streets of Melbourne. Liam\, Michael and Dylan soon developed their winning formula: a driving Mumford & Sons-style backbone featuring rich three-part vocal harmonies and soaring violin riffs\, taking influence from The Beach Boys and Punch Brothers. \nSettling on their name in late 2017\, the band didn’t take long to produce their first EP as Parkville\, from which singles “Shining” and “Brando” held #2 and #4 in the Triple J Unearthed charts\, as well as receiving Australia-wide radio play. 2018 brought Parkville the opportunity to support international touring acts and a hugely successful headline show at the Toff in Town\, which critics praised as: \n“nothing short of spectacular” ~The Real Songwriters of Melbourne \nParkville are kicking off 2019 with the release of their new single Rooks\, a uniquely devious protest song that keeps its heart on its sleeve but a knife behind its back. DESCRIPTION:Folk Festival funny man and Maldon Ministerial award winner (2011). Tim Woodz has supported ex TISM Damien Cowell’s Disco Machine at the Corner Hotel and played multiple supports for Tex Perkins and the Dark Horses. A reporter after a gig at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory wrote: \n“Tim Woodz is the kind of person your Mum or Dad would describe most fittingly as a ‘duffer’… but Woodz’ charm played a big part in the audience warming up to him. He was all grins and silly anecdotes\, putting the crowd at ease and holding court over a few tall tales.” \nTim is famously known for his Possum song\, Tall Trees and Laundromat songs and on his on stage witty character. Tim’s Jazz trained guitar style with a blend of folk stories and quirky tales will please the poetic lovers in all the young at heart. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Devil Goat Family String Band are a five piece band who play high-energy bluegrass and fiddle tunes like they’ve never gone out of style. Their contemporary arrangements of traditional tunes utilize the twin fiddles of Kate Conner and Sophia Dunn\, banjo of Gus Macmillan\, Guitar of Luke Byrnes and Double Bass of Fran Evans. They traverse the old timey and new-grass traditions\, and generate a live energy that is truly infectious to music-lovers of all generations. \nFirst formed in 2005\, this most recent new line up builds on the success and recognition they developed in the noughties\, when they released their highly acclaimed CD Fate of a Bachelor. In 2018 they released their second CD Peace Love and Goats produced by Greg Walker whose credits include Paul Kelly and C.W.Stoneking. They have become favorites at festivals such as the Woodford Folk Festival\, Victoria Night Markets\, Moomba Festival\, Docklands Firelite Festival and Sydney Road Festival where they won the Brunswick Music Festival’s People’s Choice Award for most popular act. DESCRIPTION:September celebrates song at Selby Folk Club. Why? Because it’s good for everyone! Singing makes you feel better and it turns out the reasons are physical. Here’s some science… \nSinging has some of the same effects as exercise\, like the release of endorphins\, which give the singer an overall “lifted” feeling and are associated with stress reduction. It’s also an aerobic activity\, meaning it gets more oxygen into the blood for better circulation\, which tends to promote a good mood. \nIn addition\, scientists have identified a tiny organ in the ear called the sacculus\, which responds to the frequencies created by singing. The response creates an immediate sense of pleasure\, regardless of what the singing sounds like.  So it’s just as good for the audience as it is for the performers! \nHeadlining this year’s Big Sing… \n  \nPlatinum Quartet\n \nThe effervescent Platinum Quartet have entertained crowds at public and private functions all over town.
