SUMMARY:XANI
DESCRIPTION:XANI is bringing her high energy\, peddle driven show to SFC! \nCelebrated violinist\, artist\, and intrepid songwriter\, Xani Kolac has boldly navigated the Australian music scene\, genre-hopping seamlessly since her breakout with indie band The Twoks over a decade ago. By no accident Xani has carved out and refined her own unique corner of the industry along the way. \nMusician\, improviser\, collaborator\, singer\, songwriter and principally an electric violin player\, Xani approaches music making from so many levels the outcome is something distinct\, venturing into the spaces between pop\, jazz\, electronic and chamber. A musician of the highest regard\, Xani’s live performance is unforgettable. With electronic effect pedals and live looping charging her highly improvised live sets. Xani’s is a repertoire coloured by the ferocity of her instrumental output and shaded by a deep creativity\, her earnest voice\, and pure joy. \n \n  \nSUPPORTED BY JENNA CAMPBELL\n \n  \nJenna Campbell will be packing her peddle board and wowing us with her guitar magic too!! \nThere’s a whole lot of buzz around Jenna in The Hills\, with good reason!! \nCome see what all the fuss is about… You’ll be glad you did!! \nGET TIX

SUMMARY:Clint Wilson & Band
DESCRIPTION:Clint is bringing his band AND new album to SFC!! \nMelbournian Singer Songwriter Clint Wilson possesses that rare and special something in his songwriting\, that makes his fans instantly connect to his story. Justifiably compared to the likes of Paul Kelly and Crowded House\, Clint’s nostalgic Folk\, Alt-Country music is an enjoyable amble through the tradition of storytelling in song. \nGrowing up in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs\, Clint was exposed to a life of music and performance from an early age. Although his family were not inherently musical themselves\, the young singer was encouraged with piano lessons and a love for the guitar before reaching his ninth birthday. Surrounded by the sounds of Johnny Cash\, Patsy Cline and Slim Dusty\, Clint began a lifelong love affair with the Country sound. Once in high school\, Clint took to forming a band with his fellow schoolmates and the rest is history. \n \n  \nSUPPORTED BY ROGERSON\n \n  \nShane & Freo are two members of local hills favourites Mast Gully Fellers and we’re super excited to have them joining us for the night!! They’re going to try and wrangle a violinist too!! \n\n  \nGrab Tickets

SUMMARY:Benoit 'Mountain' Album Launch
DESCRIPTION:Folk singer-songwriter Benoit will be returning to his favourite venue to release and perform his newest album\, “Mountain”\, for folkies and music lovers of Melbourne’s Eastern hills. \nMarking Benoit’s third album release\, “Mountain” includes songs of uncertainty\, disenchantment and loss that seek to illuminate these experiences as necessary landscapes to traverse. Not understood as a wall to knock down or a lion to flee from\, but as a friend that points to the soft golden autumn leaves falling on the dew capped grass. \nBenoit will be joined by a number of local heroes of the hills to help perform the songs of “Mountain”\, including John Schmidli\, Tina Nabb\, Ben Langdon (Grand Baxter)\, Zack Grace and Ol’ Shep (if the stars align). \nThis event marks two years since the release of Benoit’s second album\, “Valley”. It will surely be a night not to miss. \n  \n \n  \nSUPPORTED BY NATHAN GOODWIN\n \n  \nListeners will also have the privilege of hearing the up-and-coming Eastern Melbourne singer-songwriter Nathan Goodwin perform. Nathan Goodwin\, inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan\, Paul Simon\, and Paul McCartney blends folk\, indie\, and 60s styles in his original music. \n\nGRAB TICKETS

SUMMARY:Matt Glass & Band with Sadie Mustoe
DESCRIPTION:Crackling with wit and infectious melody – Melbourne’s smouldering\, cool\, inner-urban contemporary folk savant\, Matt Glass\, is a craftsman: writer\, performer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and producer. Sparkling with hooky exuberance on his new EP\, Slow Fireworks\, a mission statement of Glass’s inner-city\, pop-folk sensibility\, his songs are unique in their impressionistic style – warm-hearted and infectiously catchy snapshots of time\, place\, and feeling. Glass explores the complex landscape of contemporary relationships – writing from personal experiences as a father\, son\, lover\, and friend. Often brutally honest\, non-romanticised little fragments of Melbourne life\, Glass draws in the listener with strong urban-Australian\, chill/indie-folk mastery. \n \n  \nSUPPORTED BY SADIE MUSTOE\n \nSadie Mustoe is a modern-day storyteller whose indie-folk-pop music takes audiences on a journey seen through the eyes of a down-to-earth Melbourne teenager. \nIn 2021\, Sadie was runner-up for the Folk Alliance’s ‘Youth Folk Artist of the Year’ award and in 2022 won the folk category in Queenscliff Music Festival’s ‘Foot-in-the-Door’ competition. With over 30 festival appearances and a string of song-writing and stage awards\, Sadie Mustoe published her third single ‘Midnight’ in 2022 recorded\, produced and mixed by Anna Laverty. This followed her second single ‘Open My Eyes’ produced by David Carr at Rangemaster. She has been hard at work this year creating more music with David Carr and is set to be releasing more music very soon. \n  \nGRAB TICKETS

SUMMARY:Parkville & SORCHA
DESCRIPTION:Parkville are a cathartic folk duo from the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria. Liam (guitar) and Dylan (violin) have spent the better part of the last decade developing the kind of musical synergy that leads many an audience member to conclude that they must be siblings or spouses. \nCutting their teeth busking in Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall\, Parkville officially began with the release of The Peculiar Aftermath EP in 2017\, which established their winning formula: a driving Mumford And Sons style backbone and boldly honest songwriting\, topped with Knur’s signature effects-pedals-laden violin playing and a Punch Brothers-esque penchant for playful arrangements. \n2018 saw the expansion of Parkville into a full band\, culminating in 2019’s The Softest Murder EP\, producing three well-loved singles and the chance to support Irish megastars Kodaline across both Melbourne shows of their Australian tour. \nHaving spent the last two years writing and refining their craft\, Parkville are now closer than ever and are preparing for the next phase of their career. 2022 saw them move in together\, set up a recording studio and complete a mammoth 23-song recording project. 2023 has so far seen the release of The 86\, an ode to the best tram in Melbourne\, and the first single from their upcoming debut album. \n \n  \nSUPPORTED BY SORCHA \n \nSORCHA is a Melbourne-based singer\, songwriter\, and musician known for her vibrant storytelling of love and heartbreak. Hailing from a diverse musical background\, SORCHA possesses a unique ability to captivate audiences with her soulful and emotive performances. \nIn February 2022\, SORCHA burst onto the scene with the release of her first EP\, “Just Ain’t Simple.” The EP showcased her raw talent and gathered attention for its relatable lyrics and catchy melodies. \nNow\, SORCHA is thrilled to announce her upcoming EP\, “Closure.” \nSet to release on September 22nd\, 2023\, this five-track EP promises to be a musical journey through the intricacies of holding onto the past. Eager to share her new music\, SORCHA will be releasing a track on the 22nd of each month. \n  \nGET TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:Harmony Byrne & Camilla Rose Sullivan
DESCRIPTION:Melbourne-raised musician Harmony Byrne is something special. She carries a powerful voice that can both devastate with muscular ferocity and affirm with the skilled restraint of a former church singer. Crafting a unique\, unexpected blend of styles\, her sharp\, moving songwriting captures listeners from the first note. Her debut LP Heavy Doors confidently traverses a variety of styles from psych-rock to blues\, alt-country\, folk\, pop\, and gospel. With raw honesty\, Byrne explores topics like tragedy\, spirituality\, depression\, fear\, addiction\, and self-liberation. \n \n  \n  \n \n  \nCamilla Rose Sullivan is a singer songwriter from the Dandenong Ranges who fuses together the sounds of alt country\, folk\, with anthemic rock. Her lyrics are both emotionally driven and visually evocative\, drawing inspiration from the raw and powerful songwriting of Liz Stringer and Madi Diaz and the well travelled storytelling of Courtney Marie Andrews. \n  \nGET TIX HERE

He’s also begun performing with his 8 year old son Jesse. This follows the success of his 20201 album ‘Lionheart’\, a tribute to his father\, who passed away after a lengthy battle with MS. SUMMARY:Hannah Schmidli & Band with Cian Bennet at Selby Folk Club

However\, what makes this upcoming event particularly special is the rare opportunity to witness Hannah and her three-piece back band in action—a spectacle previously confined to city venues and the recent Maldon Folk Festival. Hannah has been carving out a unique path for herself\, wielding her trademark golden telecaster and backed by a soulful ensemble\, seamlessly blending jazz and soul elements into her indie/folk style. \nAlready boasting an impressive resume of festival and venue performances\, including frequent shows at the Paris Cat in Melbourne with her band\, Hannah has also written\, recorded\, co-produced\, and released two albums and an EP. As she paints vivid pictures through her music\, she effortlessly draws in listeners of all ages\, inviting everyone on a captivating journey through the power of song. \n  \n \n  \nSupporting Hannah is Cian Bennet: \nCian Bennet is a 25 year old Melbourne-based artist\, whose work is best described as melancholic ballads with folk-rock and indie-pop influences. Growing up in a family of musicians\, Cian was immersed in a variety of different styles of playing and performing.\nPlaying in local Melbourne art rock band ‘The Sunken Sea’ (vocals\, trumpet\, synth) Cian has been able to hone his performing skills over the last 7 years\, creating a deep connection to the Melbourne music scene. SUMMARY:Monique Clare with TIG at Selby Folk Club
DESCRIPTION:Wielding a cello and strikingly crafted vocals\, multi award-winning songwriter Monique Clare delivers impactful indie-folk. \nHer music embodies the cathartic lyricism of Björk paired with the rhythmic energy of traditional folk\, set on a backdrop of classical training. Her candid stage presence is born from touring internationally with The Maes and playing cello for everyone from Kate Miller-Heidke to Eminem. Featured on ABC’s The Music Show\, her acclaimed debut album ‘Sight’ tracks a journey through trauma and pain to growth and love. \nMonique’s intrepid nature has seen her teach cello in Afghanistan\, lead hikers for mountain top sunrise concerts\, and represent Australia at the World Expo in Dubai. \nWith a smile as wide as the Cheshire cat’s\, and an audacious tendency to reveal her deepest secrets onstage\, her live show is offbeat and mesmerising. \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n \nSupporting Monique is TIG: \n“Think of the emotional downpour from Olivia Rodrigo\, consoled by the angelic Norah Jones” – Sheldon Ang Media \nTig has been making waves for her uncanny ability to evoke emotion in her listeners and tease out those unfelt things we bury deep down. “All the feels” is a phrase commonly buzzing around the room at the end of a show\, and amidst the emotional turbulence\, Tig leaves her audience feeling comforted with a sense of understood-ness. A mentee of admired Australian songwriter Ainslie Wills\, Tig uncovers narrative in a delicate and descriptive way\, reminiscent of her influences. After recording her debut EP ‘Inside Voices’ from home\, the lush\, introspective collection was finessed into its sparkly finished form with producer Jono Steer (Angie McMahon\, Leif Vollebekk). \nHaving graced some big stages supporting the Pierce Brothers and Kim Churchill on tours across Australia\, and recently opening for The Veronicas at Tones and I’s Music in the Park festival\, Tig’s movie-montage-style show is one not to be missed. \n  \n\nGRAB TIX HERE

SUMMARY:Bush Gothic with Celeste Willoughby
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nBush Gothic wander through the dankest\, weirdest corners of the trad song books and emerge as post modern slash anti establishment slash folk feminists. Are they outsiders\, lurking on the cultural fringe? \nOr have they penetrated to the inner core of Australian identity? They won the Australian Folk Music 2022 Award for Best Band\, are multiple Best Music Award winners at The Adelaide Fringe and received FIVE STARS from the BBC Music Magazine. \nWith a 5 Star review in BBC Music Magazine and Roots Album of the Year Runner Up\, this daring trio have toured their modern imaginings of traditional Australian songs across the world. \nBand leader Jenny M. Thomas began her career as a classical violist before taking up touring as a fiddle-singer and Indian Karnatic violinist. Exposure to Australian folk music on the festival circuit compelled her to begin a bush band of her own\, but one that would shake up the folkocracy by focusing on the female story and including a defiantly modern aesthetic to these achingly old songs. \n \n  \nCeleste Willoughby\nPic: Cathy Ronalds\nCeleste Willoughby is a pianist and composer whose music draws heavily on her connection to the Dandenong Ranges. \nShe has played piano all her life\, driven by a passion for melody and the transportive nature of music. \nOn her debut full-length album ‘Moving Mountains\,’ the composer weaves a narrative-driven musical journey that fuses her love of classical piano with more contemporary influences\, offering a candid view into the struggles and triumphs in self discovery through instrumental piano. \nHer latest EP ‘Creatures of Habit’ is due for release later in 2024.

SUMMARY:Michael Waugh with Moonshine Coalition
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nYou’d be forgiven for thinking that you’d turned up to a fancy dress event at a Michael Waugh show – one where the theme is red and black checked flannelette shirts. “The Grateful Dead might have die-hard fans called ‘Deadheads’\,” observed Canadian Folk Singer Scott Cook at a recent show with Michael\, struck by a sea of these working man’s tops on a warm Queensland evening\, “but Michael Waugh’s shows are swarming with ‘Waugh-heads.’” \nSince his 2016 debut\, Waugh has released three albums of deeply relatable\, emotional story songs based on characters and events from around his home town of Maffra in Eastern Victoria.
